Flyin' High (1973-81)
01.29.2015

In the mix this month, we have a few lesser known roots along with some more familiar heavy hitters thrown in, all compiled "showcase" style with versions back to back. Featuring cuts from a few favorite labels—like the Capricorn Rising, One Way Sounds, and Ras Adbra stables. Also, making a special appearance is a gem that I stumbled upon years ago in a Lower East Side basement shop for way too cheap titled "Flyin' High." What almost certainly has to be Roy Reid (I Roy) here laying down an absolutely brutal toast over the rhythm of Junior "Soul" Murvin's top vocal tune "Super Love." Hopefully there will be something here that's new to your ears or you haven't heard in some time, either way hope you enjoy.

Scroll below for the option to download individual tracks from the mix and grab the label artwork if you like. Up next month, I'll either dip into some oldies or have a look at the Jackpot label.

Full disclosure on the recorded files:
All tracks are original (NY, JA or UK) pressings unless noted otherwise and very little if any editing has been applied to the original recordings, therefore you can expect some surface noise, a pop, maybe a click or three and the occasional skip. Carry on and enjoy.
